How to get clients as a Social Media Manager

Are you a social media manager looking for new clients? If so, my four-step process will help you find and land new clients in no time.

You may consider yourself a social media expert and be able to generate great content, but if no one is reading it, you're not doing your job.

Market research is the first step in setting up a strong foundation for your social media strategy—it helps you validate the value of what you're creating.

Here's how:

➡️ Conduct an informal survey with current customers or prospective clients about their likes and dislikes when it comes to social media activity. You can use tools like SurveyMonkey or Google Forms (or any other tool that allows you to collect feedback) as well as a simple email link where people can respond with feedback.

➡️ Ask them what their vision is for the social media platforms and what that would mean for their biz, what are they currently doing to achieve this vision and how you can help them get from A - B.

Now that you know what your target audience is, it's time to start digging into how you're going to find them.

You'll want to do some research and figure out what types of people they are and how they use social media.

You can find this information by looking at your competitors' content, or just using common sense. If I'm running a beauty blog aimed at young women in New York City, it makes sense that my target audience would like Instagram and Pinterest more than Facebook or Twitter—but all four platforms are still important for them!

Your personal brand is about being yourself: the things that make up your personality and values as well as what makes you unique from other people in the industry (which takes us back around again).

For example: if one thing sets my personal brand apart from someone else's is that I love cats but don't have one myself; this could lead me towards blogging about cats or cat-related products (like cat jewelry).

This would be something which not everyone has thought of doing before so it'd make me stand out in peoples' minds when they're looking for someone who does things differently."

There are a few things you can do to prepare for your discovery call, which will make you feel less nervous and more relaxed. Remember that discovery calls are about selling yourself so it's important to be confident and professional:

  • Be prepared! Make sure you have all the documents ready, like your portfolio. You wouldn't go into an interview without a pen and paper, would you? No, don't answer that; we're just saying... It's always good practice to have one of these in hand when meeting someone new (or old).

  • When asking questions make sure to take notes of the words they use, what their pain points are, and LISTEN!

If you’re following up after a discovery call, here are some ways to keep the conversation going:

  • You can also send a “thank you” email after the discovery thanking them for their time, mentioning any specific insights or helpful information they shared during the interview, and reiterating how excited you are about working with them! This shows that even though you didn’t get hired right away, there are still ways to stay in touch and build rapport moving forward.

  • If the client has asked for a proposal it will be good to include the proposal in this email. Remember if you take long to email them someone else might do it first.

Social media managers are in high demand, particularly as the role of social media evolves. In order to get clients as a social media manager in 2022, you need to have a strategy and deliver results.

If you're looking to make money from your skills on the social platforms—and who isn't?—you'll want to consider getting your hands on some training courses.

There are plenty of great ones available; just make sure that they cover what you need them to before making any purchases. If you are looking for a group coaching program that shows you the A - Z: Sociale Media Academy is for you https://www.socialemediacreators.com/sociale-media-academy

There's no denying that there's no shortage of people out there offering their services as Social Media Marketing Managers (or SMMMs). However, this doesn't mean it will be easy to find work if you want or need one! If anything, it looks like things could get tougher before they get easier!

Conclusion

If you take these steps to heart, then you should be well on your way to getting clients as a social media manager.
