It is all about the content

Writer: NatanjaNatanja

There are a few mistakes that both rookie and veteran content creators make, without even noticing it. In this blog I will share some of those mistakes.

As a content creator you need to know your niche and your target audience and more importantly you need to know what your audience wants. It is important that you understand this so that you audience have a reason to subscribe to your newsletter, YouTube channel and to follow you on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You need to be clear in what content you will be putting out. Remember you do not want to be a buffet you want to be a fine dining restaurant!

Never have a meltdown when you lose followers! I understand that it hurts when followers drop, I see that all the time on my own social media platforms, but remember it is all about quality and not quantity. Always provide your followers that stay with value, treat them like gold. Focus on the community you have, growth will come if you stay focussed.

You need to think long term, don’t just post things to grow your following ask yourself “Where am I taking this social media account?” Will you be creating a personal brand, do you want to monetise your social media platforms, and do you want to launch products in the future? This is important if you are thinking of your social media platforms becoming a business.

You have to build an e-mail list. WHAT? This is not as outdated as you think, an e-mail list is so important to your business and brand. What will you do if social media is no longer? Your entire business will be gone, if you collect emails then you will still be able to make contact with your followers.

Collabs are important however poor collab pitches does you know good. Don’t tell them to “check out my profile and let’s do something together” or “help me out I am a struggling content creator and I need your product to create my following”. DON’T be selfish, put your thinking hat on and think “What can I do for them?” Look at what you can do together and where both parties will benefit.

You will not benefit from sharing your promos on irrelevant platforms. As much as you just want to share your content everywhere, this will kill your watch time on you videos even if you have high traffic to the video. DO NOT SPAM! Watch time is more important than traffic when it comes to YouTube.

As a content creator you need to engage with your audience, reply to follower’s comments on your social media platforms. You need to show some love to your followers as this will assist in growing your following. It will become harder and harder to comment on each comment as you grow but take the time to do this as much as possible.

Lastly, do not give up to early! I have been there and I still have days when I think I am not getting the followers, comments or likes. This is when you look at your content and see where you went wrong and what you can do to make it better. Always look at a solution, everyone has “down” time.

Remember that we have all been there, develop a community and create content that focus on your niche!
